Meaning :a hybrid car is vehicle is vehicles thar uses two or more sources to move the vehicles.The term most commonly refers to hybrid electric vehicles(HEV)
which combines an internal combustion engine and one more electric motors.


Power sources for hybrid vehicles include:
·         On-board or out-board rechargeable energy storage system (RESS)
·         Compressed air
·         Coal, wood or other solid combustibles
·         Electricity
·         Compressed or liquefied natural gas
·         Human powered e.g. pedaling or rowing
·         Hydrogen
·         Liquid nitrogen
·         Petrol or Diesel fuel
·         Solar
·         Wind
·         Waste heat from internal combustion engine

Hybrid electric-petroleum vehicles
When the term hybrid vehicle is used, it most often refers to a Hybrid electric vehicle. These encompass such vehicles as the AHS2 (Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Silverado, Cadillac Escalade, and the Saturn Vue), Toyota Prius, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Honda Insight, Honda Civic Hybrid Lexus RX 400h and 450h and others

Given suitable infrastructure, permissions and vehicles, BEVs can be recharged while the user drives. The BEV establishes contact with an electrified rail, plate or overhead wires on the highway via an attached conducting wheel or other similar mechanism (see Conduit current collection).

In addition to vehicles that use two or more different devices for propulsion, some also consider vehicles that use distinct energy sources or input types ("fuels") using the same engine to be hybrids, although to avoid confusion with hybrids as described above and to use correctly the terms, these are perhaps more correctly described as dual mode vehicles:

Hydraulic and pneumatic hybrid vehicles use an engine to charge a pressure accumulator to drive the wheels via hydraulic or pneumatic (i.e. compressed air) drive units. The energy recovery rate is higher and therefore the system is more efficient than battery charged hybrids, demonstrating a 60% to 70% increase in energy economy in EPA testing

Advantages of Hybrid Cars

Hybrid cars carry with them a bundle of advantages.
  • Hybrids combine clean energy of the electrical motor with the power of the gas-powered engine which results into lower emissions and better mileage.
  • Thanks to the ever improving technology, hybrids perform at par with the normal ga-powered vehicles, if not better.
  • Hybrids are reliable and comfortable as any traditional car and they have a tax benefits(only till 2006).
  • There are purchase incentives for Hybrid vehicle owners (varies by state).
  • Hybrids are much cleaner cars than normal vehicles with lesser CO and other greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Hybrids provide a better mileage.
  • The future for hybrids looks bright with rapid developments in hybrid technology to improve engine efficiency.
  • Due to the Regenerative Braking technology, the batteries need not be charged by an external source.
  • Special warranties are provided for the battery pack, the electric motor other costly items.
  • Hybrids help reduce the dependency on fossil fuels which directly affects fuel prices.

Disadvantages of car hybrid 
Let's start off with the most obvious disadvantage: Cost! Hybrids are packed with all sorts of new technology that has been developed for just a few cars. For all your savings on MPG and so on - you are still typically paying a lot of money for the development of this technology. Of course, some states and countries offer a tax rebate on the purchase price. But even so, you are paying quite a price premium for being an early adopter of electric car technology. 


Lower acceleration than gas-powered equivalents: While some hybrids have the electric motors configured to give a boost to acceleration, standard hybrids will offer less acceleration than their standard counterparts. This may not be such an issue in terms of pure performance, but in terms of safety it may present a problem when overtaking. 


Here is one you may agree or disagree with: Looks! Think of the Prius - you may like it or hate it. The problem is that there is still a narrow range of hybrid vehicles available (compared with what we are used to with standard motors). 

The final disadvantages that I see are really a whole bunch of small ones: All related to the fact that they involve new technology and are still relatively thin on the road. Potential problems like unproven technology - what happens when the battery pack gives up and you need to replace it. At what cost? Also, if you live in a remote area, the mechanical expertise may not exist near you to fix more complex problems. Spare parts may prove costly and hard to come by. However, these problems are the same with most new technologies and go away with increasing demand and supply of hybrids.
